The traditional Independence Day gala concert of the City of Turku features virtuoso cello this year. Leonardo Chiodo is a rising young talent who won the Turku XIII Cello Competition in 2018 and reached the finals of the International Paulo Cello Competition in the same year. Ruut Kiiski, who conducted the final performance of the opera Die Kalewainen in Pochjola and the world premiere of Pauliina Isomäki’s oratorio Vuorisaarna [Sermon on the Mount] to great acclaim in 2017, returns to conduct the Turku Philharmonic.
