Olli Mustonen, conductor
Kristian Winther, violin
Turku Philharmonic Orchestra

Jean Sibelius: Oceanides op. 73
Ottorino Respighi: Concerto gregoriano
Carl Nielsen: Symphony no. 4 ‘The Inextinguishable’

Dawn at sea, waves rippling in the sun. January darkness is dispelled as the spring season begins with Sibelius’s tone poem Oceanides. From the ocean we journey to the warmth of Italy in Respighi’s Concerto gregoriano, inspired by Gregorian chant and premiered in Rome. Australian violinist Kristian Winther, the soloist in this work, returns to collaborate with Olli Mustonen, some of whose works he has premiered. The evening concludes with Nielsen’s most dramatic symphony.
