Antonio Salieri: Symphony in D major ”Veneziana”
Krzysztof Penderecki: Concerto doppio for violin, viola and orchestra
Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony no. 3 in A minor ”Scottish”
Antonio Salieri, a contemporary of Mozart’s, was one of the most distinguished composers in Europe in his lifetime but has since fallen into relative obscurity. For this programme, Julian Rachlin chose Salieri’s enchanting Venetian Symphony, based on themes from his operas. Internationally celebrated virtuoso Sarah McElravy introduces the audience to Walton’s Concerto for Viola, one of the best-known works of this British composer. The concluding number is a guaranteed treat, Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony no. 3, inspired by the composer’s trip to Scotland and hence sub-titled ‘Scottish’.
Change in program: Instead of William Walton´s Viola Concert we will hear Penderecki´s Concerto doppio
The concert is a part of the Festival of the Artistic Leadership.
The length of the concert is about 1 h 45 min. Intermission.
