Turku Philharmonic Orchestra
Jean Sibelius: Tapiola
William Walton: Cello Concerto
Bohuslav Martinů: Symphony no. 2
Steven Isserlis is a superstar cellist, one of the very finest in his profession. He performs with the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, charming audiences over the world. He is well familiar with Walton’s moody, dream-like Cello Concerto, which he has also recorded. Superbly written for the cello, the concerto is a memorable experience. Tapiola is an embodiment of Finnish mythology and one of Sibelius’s most dazzling achievements. Olli Mustonen’s programme concludes with the beautiful and impactful Symphony no. 2 by Bohuslav Martinů, completed in 1943.
