Olli Mustonen: Symphony no. 3 ‘Heavenly Lights’
Jean Sibelius: Lemminkäinen op. 22
This concert is an evocation of the folk tradition enshrined in the mythical Kalevala. Olli Mustonen’s Heavenly Lights draws on poetry from the Kalevala. This programme features the world premiere of the orchestral version of the work, originally scored for tenor, cello and piano. The soloist is star tenor Ian Bostridge CBE. Sibelius’s cycle of four tone poems titled Lemminkäinen traces the exploits of the eponymous daring adventurer in the Kalevala. The best-known movement in this cycle is the ‘Swan of Tuonela’.
The concert is a part of the Festival of the Artistic Leadership.
The length of the concert is about 1 h 45 min. Intermission.
