Ismo Eskelinen, one of Finland’s most prominent guitarists, performs Rodrigo’s concerto for guitar and orchestra, which was inspired by the gardens of the Royal Palace at Aranjuez. Symphonies of wind instruments, dedicated to the memory of Claude Debussy, is a brief gust of winds despite its expansive title. The evening concludes with one of the cornerstones of 20th-century music, Bartók’s Music for strings, percussion and celesta, which features for instance on the soundtrack of the film The Shining.
