Danish conductor Christian Kluxen is the new Principal Guest Conductor of the TPO

Christian Kluxen has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra to succeed Julian Rachlin, whose term ended this spring. Kluxen, known as one of the most interesting conductors in Scandinavia, will take up his post in autumn 2023. He is currently Artistic Director of the Victoria Symphony in Canada and Chief Conductor of the Arctic Opera and Philharmonic (APO) in Norway. Kluxen has conducted the Turku Philharmonic on several occasions and has been enthusiastically received. His appointment as Principal Guest Conductor is for two years, with an option for a third year.

“Working with Christian Kluxen has been inspiring, and we look forward to collaborating more closely with him,” says Nikke Isomöttönen, chief executive of the Turku Philharmonic.

This dynamic and charismatic Danish conductor will open his term with Ein Deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms at Turku Concert Hall in November. Written to comfort the living rather than mourn the dead, the work sets texts by Martin Luther. The performance, appropriately programmed for All Saints Day, features soprano Sonja Herranen and bass Erik Rousi with Chorus Cathedralis Aboensis rehearsed by Paavo Hyökki.
