Olli Mustonen, conductor and piano
Turku Philharmonic Orchestra
Olli Mustonen: Valoa kohti [Towards the light]– fanfare for brass ensemble (first performance in Finland)
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Piano Concerto no. 19 in F major
Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony no. 8 in F major op. 93
Nationally and internationally acclaimed artist Olli Mustonen, forthcoming Artistic Director of the Turku Philharmonic, appears here in his by now familiar triple role as conductor, pianist and composer. The programme begins with the first performance in Finland of a fanfare by him. Mozart, like Mustonen, was a keyboard virtuoso as well as a composer, and at the time when he wrote his Piano Concerto no. 19 he was one of the most celebrated performers in Vienna. Beethoven’s humorous Eighth Symphony is one of his less frequently performed of his nine symphonies.
