Daniel Schnyder: subZERO, concerto for bass trombone and chamber ensemble (duration 18′)

This programme, which focuses on diverse soundscapes and tonal worlds, brings together an unconventional ensemble of instruments. The central theme of the evening is a wistful, melancholic approach to dance-inspired music, which gradually becomes increasingly colder and more desolate. Þorvaldsdóttir’s solo piano piece Scape creates misty tones, whilst Tyson’s work for marimba brings the light of sunset to the soundscape. The concert culminates, following Scriabin’s nocturnal moments, in Schnyder’s subZERO concerto, which moves as if below zero, in dark and cold tones.
