The Storm. Siegmund flees from his enemies and Sieglinde offers him shelter in Hunding’s house. A duel ensues, love blossoms, secrets are revealed and the enchanted sword finds its owner. The concert version of the first act of Die Walküre, the second opera in the Ring cycle, features masterful soloists Silja Aalto, Bryan Register and Mika Kares. To open the concert, conductor Anja Bihlmaier takes the audience on a journey through Boulanger’s sombre, melancholic Soirée and the tranquility of Sibelius’s symphony. The Seventh Symphony, originally titled Fantasia sinfonica, is a vibrant display of artistry and a magnificent culmination of the composer’s symphonic output.
