Augustas Gocentas

Cello

Augustas Gocentas is a Lithuanian cellist born into a family of musicians in Vilnius. He began his musical journey in 2003 at the National M.K. Čiurlionis School of Arts, where he studied cello under Ramutė Kalnėnaitė. In addition, he studied piano at the same school for 11 years. In 2024, he completed a Master’s degree in Cello Performance at the Sibelius Academy under the guidance of professor Martti Rousi. During the 2019–2020 academic year, Augustas participated in an exchange program, studying with Prof. Reinhard Latzko at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, Austria.

Augustas is a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO). He has performed with the Kremerata Baltica Chamber Orchestra and the Baltic Sea Symphony Orchestra, and, in 2022, won an apprenticeship program with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2024, Augustas secured a position as cello tutti with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a soloist, he has performed several orchestras, including Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and Romania Youth Orchestra.

Since moving to Finland, Augustas has been invited to numerous festivals, including the Encuentro de Santander in Spain, European Music Trails in Germany, Super Cello Festival in Beijing and the Cello Festival in Qingdao. He has also won several competitions, including the A. Dambrovsky and K. Davydov Competitions in Latvia. During 4th D. Geringas international competition Augustas was awarded masterclasses with D. Geringas.

He has received masterclasses from renowned cellists such as F. Helmerson, E. Bronzi and Li-Wei Qin. Augustas has been supported by the S. Karosas and M. Rostropovich foundations.

He is deeply passionate about his profession and loves it immensely. This is why Augustas strives to participate in every festival, project, and competition, as well as organize concerts on his own. To date, the cellist has organized 40 recitals with 15 different programs.
