Hannes Kaukoranta

Horn

Hannes Kaukoranta began playing the French horn around the turn of the millennium at the Western Uusimaa Music Institute, under the guidance of Ari Hämäläinen. He completed his professional studies at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, earning two Master of Music degrees: one in 2017 with modern horn as his major, and another in 2021 focusing on natural and baroque horns. His teachers at the Sibelius Academy included Erja Joukamo-Ampuja and Tommi Hyytinen. He has also furthered his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in Luc Bergé’s class and through numerous masterclasses.

Hannes is an active and versatile musician. He has performed with many orchestras across Finland and has held permanent positions in the Finnish National Opera Orchestra and the Kuopio City Orchestra, in addition to the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. Since autumn 2023, he has served as principal horn at Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. Alongside his orchestral work, Hannes performs in various early music ensembles and with the Sointi Jazz Orchestra.

In his free time, Hannes enjoys not only music but also his other hobbies, with long-time favorites including fishing, wandering in nature, and cooking.
