Telemann – Vivaldi – Bach – Bacewicz – Mendelssohn
The Music in the Cathedral week invites you to Martin’s Church in 2027! Spectacular violin works spanning the centuries will be in spotlight when a concert by four violinists from the TPO presents rich, soulful sounds from different eras. The German composer Telemann, who in his day even surpassed his friend Bach in popularity, left behind a staggering legacy of over 3,000 works. Meanwhile, in Italy, Vivaldi – known as the ‘Red Priest’ – enjoyed a dazzling, international career. In addition to the Baroque masters, the programme features Mendelssohn’s early Romantic incidental music for Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as the captivating and sparkling music of the Polish composer Bacewicz, who was active in the first half of the 20th century.
