The Paris Carnival in early winter 1886. A bubbling, vibrant atmosphere, fountains, festive illuminations and fireworks. Swedish composer and pianist Valborg Aulin’s Parisian vignettes were never performed during her lifetime, and even today the work remains a rarity. Conducted by Gudrun Dahlkvist, the programme features movements that capture the pulse of the city and lead into the festive evening at the Trocadéro. The story of Petrushka, Maurus and the Ballerina also takes us into the heart of the market bustle. This love triangle, simmering with love and jealousy, sparkles and crackles with the full force of the orchestra. Patrik Kleemola will perform as soloist in the guitar concerto by Turku-born Markku Klami. “The work was inspired by the Turku archipelago and seascapes, which for me also serve as a metaphor for human beings and the relationships between people,” says the composer.
In collaboration with the Turku Guitar Festival.
