György Ligeti: Six Bagatelles for Wind Quintet (duration 12′)
Esa-Pekka Salonen: Memoria (duration 15′)
Béla Bartók: Contrasts (duration 18’)
Leoš Janáček: Mládí (duration 20′)

Recall moments, events, people – memories. This concert explores memory as a living, fragmented and constantly evolving phenomenon. Janáček set his own youth to music, and Mládí is a nostalgic depiction and experience of a period of his life. In Ligeti’s Bagatelles, on the other hand, memory can be seen as erratic and fragmented, as the music is built upon sudden, brief phrases and shifting expression. Salonen’s Memoria refers both to the unfinished work Mimo, on which it is based, and to the death of the composer Luciano Berio. In the music, memory is constructed as a changing process, and the final bars of the work are dedicated to Berio’s memory.
