Intermission, duration 30′
Maurice Ravel: Ma mère l’Oye (duration 28′)
Maurice Ravel: La valse (duration 13′)
The orchestral suite Mother Goose sets familiar folk tales from Sleeping Beauty to Little Poucet to music and transports listeners to an enchanted garden, a world of dreams. In addition to Mother Goose, Ravel also colors the waltzes of the imperial court of a bygone era with his impressionistic touch in the brilliant, musically dazzling and wildly passionate La valse. Dvořák’s concerto is a landmark work in the cello repertoire, intoxicating with its expressive power and romantic melodies. The concerto’s soloist, Maximilian Hornung, has performed with the Berlin and London Philharmonic Orchestras, among others, and is known for his profound interpretations. Conductor Gilbert Varga is known as a masterful interpreter.
