Musicians of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra perform the eagerly awaited first notes in the Ateljee Hall of the Music Centre Fuuga. The opening concert is celebrated with a variety of fanfares, and the evening’s music resonates with joy and a sense of new beginnings. Sibelius’s solo violin piece En glad musikant is like a portrait of the orchestra’s happiness in its new home. The programme also reflects TPO’s history, featuring music by former Artistic Director Olli Mustonen and former Chief Conductors Leif Segerstam and Jorma Panula. Stravinsky’s opening fanfare and Septet frame the concert, which concludes with the world premiere of a new work by Minna Leinonen, commissioned especially for the Ateljee opening. Marking the beginning of a new era and collaboration, Mikko Kouki, Director of the Turku City Theatre, will also take part by reciting excerpts of poetry between the pieces.
