The dialogue between strings and woodwinds presents three trios that complement each other. Volkmar Andreae’s rarely heard string trio represents Swiss late Romanticism at its best, and the work is rich in tone and deep in expression. The young Ludwig van Beethoven’s woodwind trio is a bright and lively glimpse into the composer’s early years in Vienna. Gideon Klein’s string trio, composed during his final months in the Theresienstadt concentration camp, brings a more serious tone to the chamber music evening.
